Concerns: An Anthropologist's Account of War Crimes Investigations
Clea Koff, Forensic
Anthropologist and Author of The Bone Woman |
 |
At age 23, Clea
Koff was one of 16 scientists sent by the United Nations to Rwanda
to unearth the physical evidence of crimes against humanity related
to the 1994 genocide. This was the first international forensic investigation
undertaken on behalf of a war crimes tribunal and, over a period of
four years, Koff participated in subsequent exhumations in the former
Yugoslavia. Reflecting on her experiences, Koff will give a personal
account of the role forensic anthropology plays in the investigation
of war crimes. She will explore how forensic exhumations have both
revealed the truth of what led up to some of the worst crimes of the
20th century as well as suggested possibilities for prevention in
the future, "thereby enabling science to be part of a larger
springboard for justice." Fee:
$40.00
